Members and Friends of Estuary Conservation Assoc.

As you may know ECA’s Estuary Guardian Program, has partnered with the Eagle Ray Dive Shop, Bonita Springs, to conduct under water scuba monitoring of the reefs off the shores of Collier County. The results of these surveys, which will be conducted several times a year, are reported to the state of Florida, and are a part of the United Nations program "DECADE OF THE OCEANS." These divers will also be providing direct support to ECA’s programs to research and survey the inland waters of the Wiggins Pass Estuarial System, monitoring the health of aquatic habitat. For example we have found sea grass and shellfish beds in areas heretofore thought to be barren.

While we have been very successful in recruiting eager divers we need a companion success to enlist BOATERS to provide necessary support. Hence this hopeful plea for you to sign on as a volunteer to operate your boat in support

We need boats of appropriate size for operating in the Gulf out to a distance of about 6 miles and boats of shallower draft for the estuarial back waters. (Out board inflatable, etc., are ideal for the inland dives).

All dives will be scheduled well in advance and almost always on Saturdays from approximately 7:15 AM until early afternoon before wind picks up.

Our request is that you consider the importance of ECA and Eagle Ray's efforts and contact me if you can help and the type of boat you can provide. (Gulf or inland), Jmorel2409@aol.com, Ph 239 348 1546. You need not be a member of ECA (although we will try to sign you up)
